Jack Taylor
I'm a mountain guide, climber, skier, and photographer based in Montana. I spend my time pursuing big objectives in wild mountain ranges — and helping others do the same.
I grew up drawn to steep terrain and open spaces, and turned that into a career guiding in the Northern Rockies, the Tetons, and beyond. Whether I'm roping up for a technical alpine route, dropping into an untracked couloir, or hiking through a remote valley with a camera, I'm most at home when the mountains are close.
My climbing has taken me from the granite of Yosemite and Squamish to the alpine walls of Chamonix, the towers of Patagonia, and the high peaks of the Andes. In winter, you'll find me ski touring through Montana's backcountry or chasing storms in the Tetons.
Uncut Ropes is where I bring all of it together — trip reports, instructional articles, photography, and information about guided trips. The name comes from the idea that the rope between partners is a bond of trust, commitment, and shared experience. It stays whole.
Guiding
I guide rock climbing, alpine climbing, and ski mountaineering trips professionally. I believe in meeting people where they are and helping them safely push their boundaries. Whether you're looking for your first multi-pitch experience or want to tackle a technical peak, I can help you get there.
Photography
The camera goes everywhere with me. I'm drawn to the interplay of light, weather, and terrain that makes mountain environments so visually compelling. My work focuses on capturing the scale and feeling of being in these places — not just what they look like, but what it's like to be there.
